Athletes Produce A Great Result In There 2nd Round Match
Tuesday 18th May. They were still talking about it tonight! A win in an excellent and competitive match last Sunday has united a whole team. Every race and every field event had nearly a full complement of competitors and the friendly rivalry between the eight clubs made the whole match so worth-while. It is so difficult to single out individuals for congratulation as it was such a team effort. Our sprinters showed their class and the way they ran reflected the high quality coaching they are receiving. The throwers produced a series of wins in the Hammer, Discus and Javelin which was a real promise for the future and the High and Long jumpers had similar success. The middle distance runs were most satisfactory, especially in the 1500m which saw the Club secure a lead in points towards the end of the match and all added up Cleethorpes AC.at the top of the League by a clear margin. Again these results are coach lead. A few glimpses of the day; we had an U17 steeplechaser for the first time for several seasons; an U15 Boy may have begun a hurdling career; an U17 lady found renewed confidence at 1500m; an U15 Hammer thrower had three wins; the Triple Jump is becoming our specialist event and one U17 discovered that one leg of a 4x400m. relay is quite hard work! A last thought is of our female sprinters winning the 200m A races and one 200m B race. How many of these can you name? And let's not forget that in total we had 39 athletes competing! Now it's on to the 14th. July at Cleckheaton.
